In these paintings which I completed for my 2017 show Personal Visions -- whether they were to be abstract or representational, acrylic, encaustic, or encaustic monoprints -- my overriding concerns beyond the initial concept were with color, texture, and structure. The acrylics focus on one of my favorite subjects, "Curb Market Goods", while the encaustics are personal interpretations of special landscapes I've observed.
I enjoy building the paintings by layering color and texture, and through mark-making, with special consideration given to surface aesthetics. This process is continued until the painting "speaks" to me, completing my vision with a satisfying blend of both harmony and contrast, and with both spontaneous and studied effects. That is, until it has become a personal vision.
