In England, France and Italy scenes abound which say "Paint me!" And I both capture them with my camera and my memory -- so that I can re-create them afresh when I return home. This process gives me great joy which I hope is conveyed to the viewers of my work.
Working in encaustics is entirely different. I stir the pot (hot wax) -- so to speak -- until a painting speaks back to me. At this point it has become a finished composition suggestive of a thought or a specific set of emotions such as those which generate wonder, surprise, enchantment, beauty -- and even of astonishment!
