This exhibition asserts the value of indulgence, of allowing for joy, gratification, and fulfillment in making and exhibiting art.
While setting a high standard of what is good and true, I sought to paint that which brings me joy. I indulged myself in the subject matter and the method of application. Such an endeavor entails risk-taking with permission to fail. It allows for mental and technical experimentation. The approach opens unexplored avenues of creative thinking, resulting in great freedom and joy of expression
I painted a series of related still-lives in mixed media with acrylic on canvas, followed by a series of abstract encaustics on encaustibord and encaustic monotypes. The monotypes were executed on rice paper and presented as hanging scrolls or banners ranging in size from 11” by 36” up to 15” by 84”.
